Camp Lejeune Lawsuits Expected to Surge by 2024
As of February 1, 2023, over 15,000 claims have already been filed under the CLJA. News outlets like Bloomberg speculate that this number could reach as high as 500,000 before the deadline in 2024.
Update on Camp Lejeune Claims Process
In August 2023, the Department of the Navy announced that they had received over 93,000 CLJA claims to date and have begun processing 17,000 of those. Although the Navy is working with the DOJ to develop an “early resolution framework,” no concrete time frame has been provided for claim resolution.
Negligence From the Government
Each lawsuit related to Camp Lejeune’s water contamination alleges that the water supply was tainted between the 1960s and 1980s. These lawsuits claim that the United States negligently caused injury or death by allowing contaminants into the water and failing to warn about severe potential side effects, including death.
